The Jabez Howland House is the only existing house in Plymouth where Pilgrims actually spent time. Jabez Howland, son of Mayflower passenger’s John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley, lived here with his family until they sold the house in 1680. It was a private residence until 1912 when it was purchased for a museum by the Pilgrim John Howland Society. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Mayflower Society

4 Winslow street

In 1876, while America was celebrating its centennial, many Americans became interested in perpetuating the memory of their ancestors who helped found our country. To commemorate the courageous, steadfast spirit and contributions to American democracy of the Mayflower Pilgrims, several states in the northeast began to mobilize.

The first Society of Mayflower Descendants was established in New York City on December 22, 1894 as a society for lineal descendants of the Mayflower Pilgrims. Three more states followed in 1896: Connecticut on March 7, Massachusetts on March 28, and Pennsylvania on July 1. Delegates from the existing Societies met in Plymouth, Massachusetts, to form the General Society of Mayflower Descendants on January 12, 1897.

Mayflower Societies quickly formed across the nation. The first state to be chartered by the General Society was Illinois in 1897. Almost 10 years later, in 1906, Colorado was the first state west of the Mississippi to be chartered.

Since its founding, the Mayflower Society has welcomed over 100,000 members who could prove Mayflower descent and has an ever-growing number of members across the globe.

August 4th only, begins at Mayflower Society, 4 Winslow Stret

“Pilgrim Progress” is a reenactment of the Pilgrims’ Sabbath procession to worship beginning at the Mayflower Society House on Winslow Street, just off of North Street in downtown Plymouth.  Costumed participants representing survivors of the winter of 1621, assemble to the beat of a drum, proceed down North Street, along the Waterfront to Burial Hill. The march continues through town on Main Street, ending at the Mayflower Society House via North Street.

The Pilgrim Sabbath Re-enactment is held on Friday evenings in August at 6pm and also on Thanksgiving day at 10am.

This event is sponsored in part by Plymouth Rock Foundation, General Society of Mayflower Descendants, and the Town of Plymouth Promotions Fund.

Spooner House, 1749

27 North Street

Built circa 1749 for the widow Hannah Jackson, the Spooner House is one of the oldest structures on Plymouth’s picturesque North Street. It was home to one Plymouth family, the Spooners, for over two hundred years. The first Spooner to occupy the house was Deacon Ephraim Spooner, a successful local merchant and patriot during the American Revolution. The Deacon’s descendants, including mariners, farmers, abolitionists, reformers, and merchants, lived here into the 1950s, adding to and adapting the house to suit their needs.

James Spooner, a lifelong bachelor and patron of music, was the last member of the family to occupy the house. In 1954, he bequeathed his home and generations of family possessions to be a historical museum. Five generations of family heirlooms are on display in the cozy Spooner House, occupied by one Plymouth family for over 200 years. Features authentic furnishings from the colonial era to the 20th century, and an enclosed “secret garden.”

The Food Court

39 Court Street

The name Food Court Craft Kitchen morphed from the Court Street location, and John & Sarah’s vision on the menu offerings. With a food court, there's a varied, wide selection. Not one specific cuisine, but a little bit of everything done seasonally well. That is the definition of a craft kitchen to them. There's craft beer, there's craft cocktails. Well, why can't there be a craft kitchen with emphasis on the cuisine? Creative dishes, from shareable small plates to full-size entrees, with everything made from scratch, in-house utilizing proper cooking techniques.
